Life is complex, and it's easy to lower our gaze and busy ourselves with the daily routine. I push back by giving attention to the beautiful and sometimes strange aspects of our existence and collective imagination. To pretend I have some sound reasoning behind my determination to paint what I find interesting would not be honest. I enjoy the struggle, and then the brief ecstasy as I finish each painting.
I enjoy the process of bringing surreal and fantastic scenes to life using traditional art materials, and I hope you find some satisfaction in viewing the work as well.
I start by creating a detailed graphite drawing as a guide, and then execute the final artwork using high quality oil paint. I use paint brushes of all sizes as well as palette knives to achieve the final illusion on rigid board.
